Question: What does a "dish" comprise?

Answer: all our dishes come with an LNB support arm, 40mm LNB clamp bracket (except Sky minidishes) and a rear bracket (with elevation adjustment) that will either bolt directly to a wall (wall mount) or to a pole (pole mount) or a bracket suitable for both types of mounting, as specified in the description. Unless otherwise stated, "pole" refers to a 2" diameter steel pole (1.5" for Sky minidishes). Brackets to mount additional LNBs are available for some dishes but not for others.

Question: What is a "Pole Mount Dish"?

Answer: A Pole Mount dish normally has a bracket (with elevation adjustment) with two 2" U-bolts that will fit onto anything measuring up to 2" diameter (50mm). For example, you could fit it to our RAV20 wall tripod or to a ground stand, a combination mount or a pole concreted into the ground or mounted on the wall with T+K brackets. Question: What pole should I use?

Answer: Small dishes can usually be mounted on the supplied wall bracket or a 1.5" pole. A 2" diameter steel pole is required for dishes between 80cm and 110cm but note that all ChannelMaster dishes require a 3" mount. Our 43cm Minidishes come with a wall bracket. Some other minidishes can be mounted on a 1.5" diameter steel pole. Always use the shortest possible length of pole. (Never use an aluminium pole for a dish. It's unlikely to be strong enough).

Question: Should I replace the old cable?

Answer: The typical life of unprotected cable outdoors is five years. By this time its attenuation factor has usually increased by a measurable amount. It will probably be "good enough" for several more years but the "rain margin" provided by a Sky minidish is so small that a slight reduction in signal can result in complete loss of programmes in heavy rain. Cable which is protected by a conduit or paint should last a lot longer.

Question: Are all dishes circular?

Answer: Most dishes are circular as viewed by the LNB. However, Sky dishes are oval (wider than high) and use a special Sky LNB to take advantage of this shape. Some dishes are oddly-shaped either for aesthetic reasons or disguise (the corners aren't actually used) or because they are designed to hold several LNBs.

Question: Whats the difference between a Zone 1 and Zone 2 dish?

The area of an ellipse is roughly W x H x pi/4

Zone 1 = 1000 sq.cm approx.
Zone 2 = 1875 sq.cm approx.

So a zone 2 dish has almost twice the signal capture area of a zone 1.

NOTE: LNB brackets

LNB brackets are listed for some of the dishes below. One LNB bracket gives approximately 3 to 9 degrees separation. The minimum depends on the width of your LNB. So a 9 degree separation should get you (for example) Astra 1 at 19'E and Astra 2 at 28.2'E. Or Hot bird at 13'E and Astra 1 at 19.2'E. To get Hot Bird and Astra 2 you will need two brackets.

Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing whether these brackets will fit your own dish.

Zone 1 minidish for Sky+, SkyHD and Freesat

Zone-1 43cmx 58cm perforated minidish. Includes Quad-output universal LNB, wall bracket and screws. You will require wall-fixing bolts, cable etc.

Suitable for receiving Sky and Freesat in most of England and Wales as far north as Lancashire. More northerly regions will require a larger dish to minimise "rain fade". More info.

Zone 2 minidish for Sky, Sky HD, Sky+ and Freesat

Zone-2 60cm x 72cm wide perforated dish minimises "rain fade" in poorer reception areas or for longer cable runs and still looks like a "minidish".
Compensates for longer cable runs. Especially helpful for SKY+HD made less sensitive by the new EPG.

Suitable for receiving Sky and Freesat in all of England and Wales and as far north as Perthshire. More northerly regions will require a larger dish to minimise "rain fade". Also suitable for most of France and some northern parts of Europe. More info.

50cm grey perforated dish

with 40mm LNB holder and wall mount

This conventionally shaped dish works well for Freesat or Sky in regions where signal strength is not a problem. It takes a standard 40mm neck LNB (not a Sky LNB). Complete with U-tube and wall mounting bracket. Can also be mounted on a pole up to 1.75" (45mm) diameter. Its low price but sturdy design makes it a popular choice. More info.

60cm grey perforated dish

with 40mm LNB holder and wall mount.

	This dish is slightly larger than a zone-1 dish and performs better with an OCTO or a QUATTRO LNB. When you want more than 4 outputs, it's likely that some of your cable runs will be longer than those used in the average "semi". This means that more signal will be lost in the cable so we recommend this larger dish to compensate. Click - MORE INFO Optional Multi-LNB bracket available: "DISH12".

	The optional bracket and 0.5dB LNBs are designed to allow the LNBs to fit as close together as possible in order to focus on adjacent satellites only 3 degrees apart. Normally this is not possible with ordinary LNBs.
