T+K bracket

Why is it called a PLUGBOLT?

Originally we bought these from a manufacturer called S.P.I.T and called it a SPITBOLT. Nowadays they could be made by "Rawlplug", "mungo" or several other makers so we decided on PLUGBOLT because it's a screw and a plastic plug.

What's it for?

The purpose of the plastic plug is to fill the hole as the bolt is screwed in and to create sufficient friction to maintain a strong grip without exerting too much pressure which could crack the brick.

You can used it with any type of bracket.

We strongly advise coating the whole bolt with silicone grease. This will make the bolt easier to screw in and will keep water at bay, making it easier to remove at a later date.

The correct way to assemble a bolt.

The correct way to assemble a bolt

Most professionals don't do it this way because it takes longer.

  • The bolt is coated with grease to ensure that it can be removed years later.
  • The Blu-Tack further seals the hole, keeping water out.
  • The washer next to the wall creates a raised "plinth".*
  • The washer under the bolt head allows the bolt to turn easily.

*When a T+K bracket is fitted to a wall without washers, it can rest on raised bricks causing the pole to twist away from the vertical. Washers can be used for fine adjustment (important for a motorised dish. Less important for a fixed dish.)
