Panasonic Digibox Faulty?

Getting It Repaired

Please read the NEXT PAGE for information about packing and contacts for this repair service (now offered by Michael Dranfield as SatCure no longer accepts repairs).

Do it yourself?

A Beginner's Guide to Receiver Repair

Based on the original "Screwdriver Expert's Guide to Satellite Receivers" this book describes the basic components and a typical power supply with diagrams and explanations. Shows how to solder and describes what to check and measure. It won't make you an expert but, if you are capable of soldering in components supplied as a kit, it will take you one step further so you understand why you are doing it and even help you figure out other possible fault causes and cures. If you buy a kit you'll need this book.

I guarantee you'll be delighted with this amazing book full of information! Download it now

Repairing Sky Digital Receivers

Not just a repair book! In fact not even a repair book!
Written in simple terms, this book gives valuable advice on how to prevent failure.
Read it NOW and save money in the future.
But, if the worst happens, read it anyway because it will still save you money.

Common problems and cures listed - many of which you can fix yourself with only the remote control handset or a soldering iron. Plus lots of general repair information including how to recognize various components.

December, 2005

We have received lots of reports from TU-DSB30 owners about "freezes" and "crashes". These faults seem to be worse in areas of poor signal outside the UK. It seems possible that a software fault is the cause but nobody seems certain. Consequently, we recommend that TU-DSB30 owners buy a different model and don't waste time or money on repairs.

 Panasonic Digibox

The SatCure Panafix2D Filter (obsolete - not available).

Some older Panasonic Sky Digiboxes eventually exhibit the following symptoms when used with certain LNBs:

"No Satellite Signal .." message when ITV or BBC (and other Astra 2D programmes) are selected. This is usually intermittent and can be cured by flicking up and down the channels and always by momentarily disconnecting the LNB cable at the tuner "F" connector* behind the Digibox. This kit is for the TU-DSB20, 30, 31, 35 and 40. It will definitely NOT fit non-Panasonic receivers.

* Do this test!

The SatCure Panafix2D Filter (was ASTRA2D FILTER) will cure these symptoms and is easy to fit with just 3 wires to solder. If these are not your symptoms then it won't work.

Models affected: TU-DSB20, 30, 31, 35 and 40. The new version is slightly smaller and has an LED on extended wires. This means that you can fit the LED to the front panel if you wish - either by drilling a hole or by replacing the "message" LED - so you can see the filter doing its job.

Fitting instructions

You may also cure the symptoms by changing the LNB. However, it's usually easier to solder three wires inside the Digibox than to spend time up a ladder trying to fit and align an LNB.

Read notes from customers who fitted this filter HERE

Please don't write to me asking "do you think the filter will fix my particular problem?" If momentarily disconnecting the LNB cable brings back the picture then the answer is "yes, probably." If it doesn't then the answer is "definitely not".

The most common fault at present is caused by users snapping off the 2nd RF connection!

Easy to replace. Just remove the top cover, undo one screw and plug it in!

Panasonic RF Output connector (no longer available).

Panasonic models are especially prone to
CPU overheating

Power Supply Kits

Why don't you sell PSU kits for the Panasonic models?

Nobody has reported a problem with the PSUs yet. We are happy to sell kits, however. Just send us a list of the components that you want in it.

Picture "breaking up" with RGB selected

There is a known problem with the tuner module in the TU-DSB31, which causes picture break-up when RGB is selected in the menu. If you select PAL in the menu, the problem goes away. If you really want to use RGB then you will have to get your tuner module repaired. (It is not yet known if this problem affects later models. However, it does not affect earlier models.)

Happy Customers

What can I say? Brilliant service, 5 days door-to-door and happy children once again!! Cheque is on the way (you should be on commission from BSkyB for this service).

I would have no problems recommending you to anyone with similar Sky-related problems. Please feel free to use this as a testimonial on your site if you so desire.

Thanks once again

Steve Pell

Hi Martin,

I have just collected my Digibox from my (not so) local depot as they didn't get around to delivering it yesterday. Driver ran out of time ?? Oh well.

Martin, you are a star! I have tested it and it works a treat. I have a working unit back in place in under a week. BskyB quoted a two week wait just to get an engineer out when I originally enquired after the first sign of trouble. On top of that I would have been faced with a bill of around twice the amount you have charged. You even went to the trouble to adjust the RF output to the channel I had set before the repair. THANK YOU.

Just in case this ends up on your website, I would like to state for the record that SatCure provides a fast, efficient and totally reliable service at a competitive price. It's a pleasure to do business with a genuine person that is only interested in giving you first class service without ripping you off. Anyone wishing to contact me to confirm this can do so with pleasure (nospamglenn@sandg.screaming.net) remove nospam.

(Repairs are now handled by Michael Dranfield)
