3D TV can be dangerous...

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=1247463

Quote of the month from "Deathstar" on the SkyUser forums:-

Never mind all this 3D stuff. I'm looking forward to "Aroma-Vision"; that will be quite an achievement; something not to be sniffed at.

Our son and his wife were due to visit us on Friday April 16th. Flight cancelled, along with thousands of others. My sympathy goes to all of you who were affected, AND to those hundreds of people on Iceland who had to move out of their homes. They say "it's an ill wind that blows nobody good" but did anybody benefit from this event, apart from train, ferry and bus companies?

One thing amused me. It was stated that "a specially equipped aeroplane took the photos." I never thought to see the day when an old piston-engined 'plane with an air filter would be so described!

Oh, and if you are wondering how to pronounce Eyjafjallajökull click here.

Paypal

Our Paypal integration is finally complete! You can now place an order, select "Paypal" and go directly to the Paypal payment page after "checkout". It now works for eBooks, too. (There's a 4% surcharge to offset our expense of using Paypal and to help recover the £800 it cost to complete the software integration. Please don't moan at me about this. If you don't like it, pay by credit card.)

Monthly Whinge

I think I've done enough whinging, this year.

For those of you who like an outlet for your moaning, try this site:

Feedback

Sorry to seem critical but your website is hellish busy & so t'is very difficult to find the undoubted nuggets of wisdom it contains. Regards dave.

As you can imagine, we get at least one complaint every year about the amount of free information that we provide. It has built up over the last 15 years. One day, when I'm rich, I might pay someone £10,000 to tidy it all up. Alternatively, I might simply delete it all and leave people to struggle.

Readers' Contributions

Nowt. (Thanks, guys. I expect you are too busy shovelling volcanic ash off your driveways.)

Note: At one person tried to contribute but was foiled by our "spam" filter. It appears to have been his use of the seemingly innocuous word "health". Our forms are designed to accept questions about satellite TV and related technical subjects. They will reject words such as "allergy", "enlargement", "smoking" and many others used in spam offers for "health" products and medicines. Maybe it's a bit OTT but it certainly kills 100% of spam, to the detriment of only a tiny number of messages from kind, well-meaning people.

So post your contribution in the public forum, which is the correct place to post "off-topic" contributions. If you want a mention in this monthly newsletter, just ask. I will then decide whether your message is suitable for inclusion or whether I should simply include a link to it here. See the contribution.

Those people who contribute to this newsletter can have a sneaky look at my on-line "blog", if they ask me very nicely!

If you have anything of interest to contribute, please contact me with details. What have you installed? What problems have you had? Have you been ripped off? Tell us all about it. (Make it interesting.) I promise not to make fun of your spelling or grammar. (I'll correct it.)

New Products

I'm looking at the possibility of stocking cheap MP3 players.

Beware the Scam!

This is interesting.

Questions

- a selection from this month's emails

(If you are a new subscriber I'm afraid that you might find some of my replies a little blunt to the point of being rude. That's just the way I am after answering customers' questions for the last fourteen years. Please don't take offence. Sometimes I'm a little tired, ratty or impatient and it shows! Generally, if you ask for a free reply, you'll get what you pay for. If you DO have a question, PLEASE read the web site information and eBooks first. I get the same questions day after day because people can't be bothered to look.)

Hi

I need to split the rf output on my sky+ dish so I can send a signal to one of my bedrooms and to my dinning room, I take it I will need an amplified splitter to boost the signal and so my sky link will still work, I am sure the rf output is a normal ariel connection so I need and conector from that to a f connection I had a look on your site but could not see one.

Hope you can help.

John.

Hi, John. There is no RF output on a dish. It's just a piece of metal with an LNB attached. The two RF outputs are on the rear of your Digibox, labelled RF1 and RF2.
See

"7. Split Digibox RF outlet for other TVs"

Tried to send this via the other form but could not get it to send.

Which other form? What was the error message?

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am interested in buying a quality cable to connect my "Sony Bravia KDL26EX302U 26-Inch Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV with Freeview" to the wall socket for freeview reception. I have read your FAQ's and info page on this issue, and selected the WF100 BLACK 3M cable.

However, and my question is, do you provide gold plated F connector to be attached to this cable in order to increase the quality of the reception. I could only see FIT2FS F connector to be ready fitted with the order as selection on your website.

Thank you for your assistance.

Kind Regards

Engin Alper TARIMCI

No we don't. The "plug" forms only the outer ground connection. I don't understand how you propose to gold-plate the central copper wire?

In any case it would have zero effect on the "quality of reception". Provided that you coat the connections with silicone grease to exclude air, they should be perfectly reliable.

I have 6 decoders and 2 DVD's players at my location. All have SCART connectors.

5 also have coaxial connections (which normally go directly to the TV).

I need to be able do the following:

1. Switch any of the 8 SCART cables and feed a maximum of 2 TV's.

2. Feed up to 5 coaxial outputs into a "black box" and then feed the output to up to 3 TV's in other rooms. The idea is that I will then tune the TV's to the 5 different channels.

See http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/satindex.htm

"59. How to connect AV equipment to my TV?"

BTW I have no idea what you mean by "decoders" so you'd better specify make and model number when you post your question elsewhere.

Can you supply prescaler chip U264B? I require x2, please advise price & p&p. Regards Peter.

Is this item available from you or does it need to be included in kit for future supply? Component is double diode type LT6202 (MBR10100CT also on item). Hope you can supply component
Look forward to hearing from you

GORDON

Hi, Gordon. This is AFAIK a rare failure and we don't stock this part. However, you should be able to obtain one from Michael:

Happy Customers

THANK YOU

Hi,

Just a quick email to say that I thought your PSU repair kit for Sky+HD boxes etc. is really great. Bought it, fitted all the components and so far not one crash or "technical fault". Also RF2 output is better, remotes work better etc etc.

I found these on another website and thought they might be of interest to you:

Rubber fan mounts... never know, they might work for the Sky box.

Regards,

Ian D

Thanks. We've looked at alternative fan mounts but none seem to fit and most people manage to re-use the existing ones.

BRILLIANT !!!.

Guys,

Thanks for sending a replacement PSU for my Sky HD box (Thomson). It took 2 weeks from sending to receiving and fitting, which is excellent service as I live in Switzerland. The kids are happy again!!

Many thanks,

I'm going to blame the volcano for that lengthy delay.
