Exchange Power Supplies

February 13, 2008
These units are currently in very short supply. It may take a few days (or even weeks) before we can get one to you. Your card will not be charged until the day of shipping. Thank you for your patience. (You now have the option of sending your old PSU to us immediately, which will speed up your order. The deposit will not be charged unless our worksop discovers that your old one is unrepairable.)

(A deposit is charged if you do not send your old PSU immediately. This will be refunded shortly after receipt of your old power supply.)

Q. I returned my old PSU a week ago. When will you refund my deposit?

A. As soon as our repairer notifies us that your PSU is repairable with capacitors. If it is unrepairable or needs additional parts, we will refund some or none of your deposit.

Once you have fitted your replacement power supply and you are happy that it is working (test it for a day) please pack your old one in our packaging and return it to us at:

RETURNS DEPT SAT.....
SatCure Distribution,
PO Box 73
Oakengates,
TELFORD
TF2 8WR

Be sure to include the "SAT......" order number and a brief note to confirm that this is a returned faulty unit, otherwise you won't be removed from the list and you won't receive a refund. If you use Royal Mail Recorded Delivery, you'll be able to see (on the Royal Mail web site) when we received your package. Refunds are usually processed on one specific day of the week so you should see yours on your credit card account within 7 days maximum.

Please write "RETURNS" followed by the "SAT......" order number on the outside of the packaging above the address.

We recommend that you obtain a certificate of posting if you choose not to use Recorded Delivery.

If the new PSU does not work, please contact our Technical Department with full details of your Digibox model number from the label and the power supplies' identification codes, (new and old) which are usually printed on the printed circuit board.

We have had a few PSUs returned where no fault can be found. This prompts me to suspect that something else is going wrong. Back in the days of analogue satellite TV, Amstrad designed a PSU with a really crappy plug-in connector. It was so bad that we had to solder an additional wire to bypass the 0 volt connection between PSU and mother board!

May I suggest that anyone having problems with a new PSU should try spraying the connector pins (on both boards if there's a socket on both) with WD-40 (or similar) and reconnecting. Wiggle the plug up and down a few times to clean the pins. It's fragile so do this carefully. The lubrication will make it easier.

I also think the connectors should be sprayed as a matter of course when fitting a new power supply.

A Beginner's Guide to Receiver Repair

Based on the original "Screwdriver Expert's Guide to Satellite Receivers" this eBook describes the basic components and a typical power supply with diagrams and explanations. Shows how to solder and describes what to check and measure. Includes a basic guide to tracing the cause of a fault. It won't make you an expert but, if you are capable of soldering in components supplied as a kit, it will take you one step further so you understand why you are doing it and even help you figure out other possible fault causes and cures. If you buy a repair kit, you need this eBook.
