How to receive Greek satellite TV in the UK

Ellnvika -->

Greek satellite decoder and greek Sky sports decoder

I've had a lot of enquiries about this since the court case decided that it was not illegal for a private individual to watch football in the UK. Consequently, I'm doing some research but I need YOUR help in order to report the true facts. Please contact me click HERE.

So far I can tell you that a Nova subscription to get you football will cost around 30 Euros per month BUT Nova does not have rights to all Premiership matches so you would probably get about half of the available matches from Nova.

I still have to determine whether you'll need a dedicated Nova Digibox or whether an ordinary receiver with a specific CAM can be used. (Please contact me if you know the answer. I'll keep this page updated so reload it if you've visited it previously.

This FORUM might be of interest to football enthusiasts.

Many Greek channels can be received in the UK and across Europe. The majority are on Hot Bird and HellasSat, the Greek satellite.

HellasSat is a powerful satellite, and receivable in most of the UK with a 60 cm dish. Since it is located at 39°E, you could even use a single 60 cm dish to get HellasSat and the Sky Digital channels at 28°E - aim the dish at HellasSat and use a second LNB offset for Sky.

On HellasSat there are around 10 free-to-air channels, which include ERT World (the Greek world service with programmes taken from NET, ET-1, ET-3 and made especially for the channel), RIK Sat (general entertainment from Cyprus, including the news in English), Mad TV (contemporary Greek music), Sat Lux TV (Greek history and culture), Magic TV (sport), Skai (news), Kanali Voulis (coverage of the Greek parliament), and a handful of other channels.

To watch these channels you will need a 60 cm dish and any free-to-air (FTA) DVB satellite receiver.

If you subscribe to the encrypted pay-TV service, AthinaSat (from £13/month), you will get the dish and receiver free with a year's payment up front.

There are also around 30 Greek radio stations broadcasting on HellasSat, which can be received with the same FTA satellite receiver.

To receive Hot Bird, you will need much the same equipment (with the dish aimed at 13'E) but, if you want Sky Digital from the same dish as well, use an 80 cm dish.

On Hot Bird, FTA channels include ERT, RIK Sat, Sat Lux TV, and Kanali Voulis, along with Extra 3 (general entertainment), Hellas HDTV (an odd mix of documentaries, news, entertainment and travel info), and a few other channels that are available with Greek soundtracks.

Also on Hot Bird is the excellent Nova pay-TV package of Greek and Greek language channels. As well as various film, sports, news channels, and the three Greek national channels, NET, ET-1, and ET-3, Nova will give you access to Greek channels that are available on "normal" TV in Greece: Mega Channel, Anti, Star, Alter, Alpha, and Macedonia V.

The Nova package is officially available only in Greece so you'll need to find friends or family who could subscribe there (prices start at ¤57/month).
