What is Sky Multiroom? Sky Multiroom gets you an additional Sky viewing card, which is an exact mirror of your main subscription package, to use in another Sky Digibox. At the time of writing, you will pay just over £10 per month for each additional card (up to a maximum of 3 per household). To qualify for the "multiroom discount", your main Sky Digibox, and all additional boxes with a "multiroom" card, must be connected to the same (working) telephone line in the UK. It is your responsibility to ensure that this is so. Sky runs an automatic check every few weeks to ensure that all your boxes are connected to the same line. Sky sends out a signal via satellite, telling each box to phone Sky's computer on a freefone number. The call takes a couple of seconds and is usually made at night when the Digibox is not in use. Multiroom Problems If your Digibox fails to contact Sky's computer, a letter is posted to the account holder automatically. Click to see example multiroom letter (PDF file). If you receive such a letter, don't panic. If possible, get your Digibox connected to a phone line right away, then look at the menu and make it do a "callback". Click HERE for our page of telephone cables with plugs, reels of cable and accessories. If a phone line is physically impossible, try a Wireless (DECT) phone extender. On no account phone Sky to cancel your multiroom contract unless you are positive that you are outside the 12 month contract period*. They may verbally agree to cancel but fail to do so if you are still in contract. Then they will charge you the full price, backdated for one or more months! *If you have modified your contract recently, the count starts all over again. So, if, for example, you changed to HD, you will have started a brand new contract that you can't cancel. If you fail to fix the problem, the account holder will receive a second multiroom letter (PDF file). I understand (but nobody has provided a copy for me) that there is a third letter with a final warning. Ignore this letter at your peril! If you don't connect your boxes to the same working phone line, your next Sky subscription debit will be for the full amount for each box - possibly backdated by several months! |
