| Before you order a "magic eye" it's a good idea to read these notes and make a sketch of how you need to connect everything, bearing in mind that connectors may be male or female, TV plugs or threaded 'F' plugs. It's time-consuming and difficult for us to advise "what connectors do I need" for every possible combination so please read the notes and make a shopping list. Here is an example for the VisionLink "magic eye", which is reckoned to be the best available. If you already have a different "magic eye" you must adjust your shopping list accordingly to include the correct connectors. |
| | This tiny VisionLink "eye" is no larger than your thumb. Connected by 870mm of Flexible lead, it is the least obtrusive of all the remote extenders. The tubular link adapter is fitted with a threaded "F" connector and a short, flexible lead with male TV plug to connect to your TV aerial socket. |
| If you are not connecting the device to your TV (e.g. using it only to extend control from a cupboard) then you won't need the TV-TV lead and COLM adapter. The TV male to F plug lead is required for connection to a Sky Digibox. If you are connecting it to a SkyLink amplified splitter, you'll also need an F-F lead of suitable length. In all cases, please make a sketch of your own proposed wiring layout so you can be sure about what plugs will be needed. Some amplifiers have F connectors and some have TV connectors so choose accordingly. In general, I recommend using F connectors wherever possible (but the flexible lead has a TV plug so you have no choice there). |
| | This is the sort of lead you'll need to connect the short, flexible lead to the TV aerial socket. If you wish, you can have an ordinary TV plug on both ends. It is shown here with a right-angle plug on the TV end... |
| | ...with a COLCM adapter to join our lead (shown as red) to the VisionLink short, flexible lead. |
| If you find that the remote control works ONLY when the "magic eye" is disconnected from the TV aerial socket, then you can Decouple the lead (above) as described HERE. Alternatively, you can buy two leads ('F' plug one end, TV plug the other) as shown below and buy a SkyLink Decoupler to fit between them. |
| | To connect the VisionLink to your wall socket, you'll need a double-screened lead with an 'F' plug to connect to the VisionLink, and a plug suitable for the wall socket. |
| | Usually this will be a male TV plug but, dependent on your wall plate, you might need to convert the plug to female with a COLCM adapter. |
| | You might even need a lead with an 'F' plug on both ends, if your wall plate has an 'F' connector. |
| Of course, if you don't use a wall plate socket, you'll need a long cable from the VisionLink 'F' connector to the Digibox RF2 socket (which is TV male so it needs a male TV plug with a COLCM adapter fitted). |
